Another Star Trek connection, Khan’s ship was the ”Botany Bay.” He was a prisoner being exiled to space in a direct parallel to colonial Australia. I doubt O’Brian was a Star Trek fan but, that’s way too on the nose to not make me wonder if O’Brian was at least familiar enough with Trek’s plot seeing where this book soon takes us.
